Description

This session highlights the critical role of recovery housing in supporting parents and children. Presenters will share data on mothers and fathers in recovery, identify gaps in family-centered housing, and engage participants on building a residence for women with children and Kentucky’s fatherhood initiative. Topics include licensing, trauma-informed design, leadership training, and early outcomes. Participants will leave with new insights and at least one actionable idea to strengthen their own programs.

Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Identify essential planning, licensing, and funding considerations for opening or adapting
recovery residences to serve parents with children.
2. Describe trauma-informed and gender-responsive strategies for supporting mothers and
fathers in recovery housing programs.
3. Discuss barriers and facilitators to implementing parenting-focused programming, including
curriculum, activities, and community collaborations.
4. Outline actionable steps to evolve the recovery housing culture to prioritize family relationships
and long-term recovery outcomes.
