This session will provide an overview of how the Social Model is currently being implemented in recovery housing. It will address the established standards in recovery housing, based on the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) best practices, and also SAMHSA’s standards as stated in their Recovery Housing: Best Practices & Suggested Guidelines. Attendees will hear from a panel of four (4) different recovery housing operators representing four (4) different states. Each member of the panel will respond to questions regarding how their facility applies the principles of the Social Model in their respective recovery housing facility, what challenges they face in a landscape of Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) protocol and a environment that promotes and supports harm reduction. Attendees will learn how different recovery housing facilities, in different states, are meeting requirements while still maintaining an atmosphere that encourages inclusivity and supports the needs of individuals experiencing multiple pathways of recovery.
1. Understand the importance of the Social Model and how it is being implemented today in a variety of recovery housing facilities in different states.
2. Identify and implement NARR’s best practices for creating an inclusive, non-clinical recovery housing environment, and how it benefits an individual’s recovery.
3. Become familiar with the challenges faced by recovery housing operators in an environment that promotes MAT and harm reduction.
4. Hear how the Social Model promotes and supports ongoing recovery both during and after residency in a recovery housing facility.
5. Learn how the Social Model can meet the needs of individuals experiencing multiple pathways of recovery.
