Description
This session will provide a comprehensive overview of LGBTQ+ affirming standards in recovery housing, based on the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) best practices. Attendees will learn about the importance of creating inclusive environments that support the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals in recovery. The session will cover non-discrimination policies, placement based on gender identity, privacy and confidentiality measures, and strategies for addressing and educating about anti-LGBTQ+ behavior. Additionally, it will explore the legal and ethical frameworks that underpin these practices and provide practical steps for implementing LGBTQ+ inclusive policies in recovery residences.
Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the importance of LGBTQ+ affirming recovery housing and the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in accessing recovery support.
2. Identify and implement NARR’s best practices for creating inclusive and affirming recovery housing environments.
