Jimmy Christmas is a person in long-term Recovery (08/21/1992) that has been a professional Social Worker in Richmond, Virginia since 1994 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2002. He has been employed in many behavioral health organizations and in many roles throughout his career such as The Daily Planet, Richmond Private Methadone, CARITAS, Hallmark Youth-Care, Lakeside House, Henrico Drug Court, Rubicon, Casselton Consultants, Family Counseling Center for Recovery, and Insight Physicians. Other roles have included serving as adjunct faculty and field instructor for VCU’s School of Social Work for 15 years and is still currently a Certified Clinical Supervisor for countless students and professionals seeking clinical supervision. Jimmy’s current board and workgroup service commitments include the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR), Virginia Cannabis Public Health Advisory Council, DBHDS/DMAS “Redesign” Initiative, VCU Rams In Recovery, and the Ujima Legacy Fund. Past board work has included Metro Richmond Behavioral Health Innovation Collaborative, McShin Foundation, RBHA Foundation, Focused Outreach Richmond, and the Virginia Association of Community-Based Providers.Jimmy is the Founder, CEO, and Clinical Director of “River City,” behavioral health organization that provides a diverse range DBHDS licensed programs and services such as Crisis Stabilization, Intensive In-Home, Mental Health Skill Services, Opioid Treatment Program (Staunton Treatment Center), ASAM L2.1 Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Substance Use Case Management. River City’s traditional Outpatient Practice offerings consist of individual, group, and family psychotherapy, a Veteran’s Employment Program, and as a VASAP certified organization, River City performs DUI evaluations and treatment for criminal justice involved individuals. In 2020, River City in a collaboration with Recovery Community Operators True Recovery RVA and Journey House Foundation, along with Dr. Peter Breslin, a double boarded ASAM addiction medicine physician and psychiatrist, became licensed for ASAM 3.1 Clinically Managed Low Intensity Residential Services under the banner of “River City Residential Services.” Additionally, in 2021, River City in collaboration with Recovery Community Operators (RCO) WAR Foundation and True Recovery RVA, along with Virginia Delegate Lamont Bagby, and governmental relationship professional David Hallock, purchased a 12,000 square foot facility on Parham Road. This space will house a “World Class” Recovery Center here in the Richmond Metropolitan Area where individuals that experience substance use and psychiatric conditions can access a wide range of Recovery and treatment services.As a provider of direct services, developer of behavioral health programs and services, and a long-time field instructor and clinical supervisor to other professionals, Jimmy is committed to enhancing his knowledge and skills where he is constantly engaged in ongoing informal and formal training and development activities. He is a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Certified ASAM Assessor, 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, a Mindful Yoga Therapist, a long-time practitioner of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Ego Psychiatry, and a practitioner of mindfulness and meditation for many years. Jimmy has been a runner, martial artist, and golfer for over 25 years; and is a big fan of Stephen King and Ann Rice novels. He loves traveling, music, food and most all, his family and friends. As a presenter, Jimmy utilizes the many stories that he has heard from a diverse range of humans and non-humans and integrates them with his own to create healing experiences for others, himself, and the world.
