John Shinholser a person in sustained recovery since august 1982, a pioneer in the peer recovery support provider industry in the state of Virginia and United States. A charter member of FAVOR and ARCO. A past activist and advocate with Facing Addiction and the national council of alcohol and drug dependence. A current Subject Matter Expert with the Peer Recovery Center of Excellence.
A recovery resident operator since 1985, co-founder of The McShin Foundation 2004, Virginia’s leading authentic recovery community organization, CAPRSS accredited.
The founder of the state of Virginia’s NARR affiliates and co-founder of VARR (Virginia association of Recovery Residences).
Co-author of the SAMHSA published McShin Recovery Coach manual. John was featured in the documentary The Anonymous People by Greg Williams. John is a guest columnist with The Richmond Times Dispatch and Huffington Post and has been involved with many recovery books, news broadcasts and print journalism.
