The central premise of collegiate recovery is that students should not have to choose between their recovery and their education. Most college campuses are recovery hostile environments with high rates of alcohol use and substance-related challenges. Collegiate Recovery is a growing movement across the United States to support students in recovery. This presentation will introduce collegiate recovery, discuss challenges for students in recovery, explore how recovery houses can better support students in recovery, and examine models from Rutgers and VCU for providing on-campus housing for students in recovery.
