Location Name

Description
"Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer people and those of addtional, margialized sexual/gender identities (LGBTQ+ people) are at a much higher risk for developing substance use problems than the general population according to SAMHSA data and other leading research. The reasons for this are as varied as the individuals who enter our recovery homes looking for support. This session will explore practical ways to better support the recovery of LGBTQ+ residents through a continuum of care--from LGBTQ-specific housing to more inclusive practices, and implementing policies designed with LGBTQ+ residents in mind. This starts with understanding the unique needs and challenges of LGBTQ+ people in recovery. We’ll talk with panelists who have developed such policies and trainings for NARR state affiliates, as well as certified recovery residence operators who’ve opened LGBTQ+ homes or developed practices specifically to serve LGBTQ+ people in recovery.
Objectives
"Identify why LGBTQ inclusive practices are needed in recovery housing.
Identify the key practices and policies that can support LGBTQ residents on the affiliate and operator levels.
Identify the first steps that attendees can take to start making their recovery residences more inclusive, including where to access additional information and resources."
