This plenary will explore the concept of recovery capital—the internal and external resources that support long-term recovery—and its vital connection to the peer workforce. Dr. David Best will present emerging evidence on the role of recovery group participation in early recovery, highlighting how social and community engagement strengthens recovery capital. Building on this foundation, he will share new data demonstrating the strong association between a peer worker’s own recovery capital and their ability to effectively support others. The session will also examine the organizational conditions that allow peer workers to thrive and sustain their own recovery while helping others. Finally, Dr. Best will showcase an innovative partnership with the National Peer Recovery Alliance that applies recovery capital principles to peer workforce development at a national level.
