Description

This 60-minute interactive workshop explores how recovery homes can successfully integrate Medication-Assisted Recovery (MAR) while reducing stigma and empowering residents to make informed medical decisions. Led by an IDHS/SUPR-licensed, 100-bed recovery home operator serving adults 18 and older, the session will highlight an inclusive, autonomy-based approach to MAR implementation. Participants will examine practical strategies for integrating MAR, including education for staff and residents, developing collaboration with MAR-friendly providers, and implementing policy that protects resident dignity. The workshop will include myth/fact activities, group discussions, and presentation of a real-life resident MAR advocacy letter used to promote self-advocacy without compromising confidentiality. Drawing from direct experience, the presenter will discuss overcoming resistance from 12-step-based cultures and the recovery community at large. Outcome data from residents on and off MAR will be presented, showing similar success rates. The session assumes familiarity with MAR and will focus on implementation, education, and equity-informed practice. Attendees will leave with practical tools to adapt MAR policies in their homes and advocate for a more inclusive recovery landscape.
