Description

RCCs are developing as community supports for sustained recovery, to work with recovery residences, and to nurture recovery communities, among other purposes. A Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is an independent non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of local communities of recovery. The mission of an RCO is to mobilize resources within and outside of the recovery community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery. An RCC is a brick-and-mortar facility that provides recovery-oriented services to individuals in recovery, those seeking recovery, and their families and loved ones. They are non-profit centers for the recovery community that offer local networks of non-medical (non-clinical, non-therapeutic) recovery support services (RSS). They are peer-operated centers that serve as local resources of community-based recovery support. California’s social model addiction recovery programs from the 1970s-1990s had RCCs that were strikingly similar to contemporary ones. NARR uses some social model principles in its standards. It would be helpful to identify how the social model recovery RCCs could apply to today’s RCCs. What lessons can be learned from these early social model recovery programs for RCCs? How can RCCs of today work with and benefit recovery residences?

Objectives
1. Gain insight of RCC’s (Recovery Community Centers) as early pioneers and implementers of the social (experiential) model that shapes our current understanding of all recovery support services.
2. Articulate the essential elements of present-day social model Recovery Support Services and their place in the continuum of care
3. Identify how social model RCC’s ways can effectively align and benefit recovery residences.
