Peer support services are a best practice. When these services are utilized effectively, we see a decrease in hospitalizations, emergency department visits, and justice system recidivism. Likewise, we see an increase in engagement in treatment and recovery support services as well as overall cost savings! For this reason, it is important to integrate peers into any and all settings where individuals are struggling with substance use disorders. You can imagine that list is long! Yes, we encounter individuals with substance use disorders in treatment, recovery housing, and recovery community organizations, but we also encounter and can interject with these individuals in our local community settings -- our business community, our local unions, our libraries, and more. This panel discussion will showcase peers who are currently working within treatment, recovery housing, the justice system, and unions. It will explore the general role of peer workers and how to effectively integrate peer services within each of these settings. You will walk away with a deeper understanding of the value and dire need for peer support services.
